31 Days: Grandma's Wisdom~ Carnival

This post is a part of the 31 Day challenge, to see more of these posts click on THIS link!

Do you remember the first time you ever went to a carnival?  Just saying the word brings to mind smells that make my mouth water.
Now imagine that it's 1926... and your mom takes you to the carnival.  You are five, or maybe six years old.  There's a large Ferris Wheel, games, prizes, and food.  Can you sense the anticipation and excitement?  Then comes the best part... you have the entire day to do whatever you would like.  If you want to ride the rides, you do. No ticket needed.  If you want to eat some food, you do.  No money needed.  You want to play a game? No problem, "step right up!"  A child's dream come true!

It's no wonder to me that this is a memory that has cemented itself into Grandma's mind.  The time surrounding it is all very fuzzy for her. But this day, this day was one to be remembered.  She doesn't remember if her mother worked for the carnival for a single day, or if she traveled with them for many days.  But the particular day that stands out in her memory is the one where she made a little friend.  A boy close in age to her.  They played together that day, riding rides, winning games, filling bellies while their mothers were away working.  A different time and age?  Certainly.  But more than that... 85 years later it still brings a smile to her face!

year, too. She repeats the same familiar stories with the details and years getting fuzzier by each passing day. I think this is an absolutely loving way to share with others your Grandmother's stories and at the same time putting them dowm on paper for your family to cherish, always. What a wonderful granddaughter you are. Just very sweet.
